Porter Tapp collected three hits in three at bats, but Booneville Blue Devils lost to the Oxford Chargers 7-3 on Monday. Tapp singled in the third inning, singled in the fifth inning, and singled in the second inning.
The Blue Devils lost despite out-hitting the Chargers eight to six. Tapp led Booneville with three hits.
Booneville got on the board in the second inning after Corbin White singled, scoring one run.
Oxford captured the lead, 4-1, in the bottom of the second when Brady Maloney drew a walk, scoring one run, Bowen Vaughn singled, scoring one run, and Hayes Huggins singled, scoring two runs. A single by Vaughn, and a passed ball helped theChargers extend their early lead in the third.
Knox Houston started on the bump for the Blue Devils. The starter surrendered four hits and four runs (two earned) over two innings, striking out one and walking three. Barrett Kamman stepped on the bump first for the Chargers. The lefty surrendered five hits and two runs over three innings, striking out three and walking one.
Kylin Leslie collected two hits for Booneville in four at bats. TheBlue Devils turned two double plays in the game.
Vaughn led the Chargers with three runs batted in from the number nine spot in the lineup. The outfielder went 2-for-3 on the day.
